Five Traits of an Achiever

Welcome uncertainty: Life is uncertain, and many people try to stop change and the unknown. We never know what is going to happen next, so rather than avoiding being uncomfortable, embrace the unknown, become comfortable with it. Uncertainty is like a mother of a 5-7-year-old child that want to cross the street alone. The mother wants to keep the child safe and go alone to protect the child. Eventually, the mother allows the child to do a small thing and as he/she proves the mother she/he can handle, the mother start letting it be. Same thing takes place with uncertainty and managing the unknown: At the beginning we do not want it, but as we start welcoming it, we gradually and over time, we become comfortable with the unknown. The outcome is that we are willing to look for new ways and other alternatives to achieve, so we become achievers. Never stop learning and developing self (professionally and personally): We can choose to live green and growing or ripe and rotting… Green and growing is about learning new things and developing ourselves to be better, getting to know ourselves better and find out how we can improve. When we stop doing this, we become ripe… Never compare with others: Each one of us is unique, with our unique circumstances, problems, points of views, beliefs, life experiences, etc. We life in our own shoes and no someone else’s… So why do we compare our situation with others? What we must do is compare ourselves with what we were before and see how far we […]

Overcoming Procrastination

We all have procrastinated at one time or another. In a very simplified way, procrastination is form we use to avoid a possible and unwanted outcome. In other words, we are avoiding some form of uncertainty because of one or more self-talk along the line: What if I fail? What if I can’t do it? What will people say? Etc… One uncomplicated way to move forward if to be aware of what we are doing and then start changing this self-talk to something along the lines of: What if I succeed? What if rock doing it? What if people are impressed by me? This approach may not, or it might work on day one. It will work over time. For those who like to take this even further, adopt the following theme: “Discipline, consistency and perseverance”. Every time you feel like dropping the standards, or letting it go unfinished, remember the theme and repeat it to yourself. Again, it works very quickly for some and it can take longer for others. Either way, it works!

Taking Responsibility for our life…

Many people believe that taking responsibility for our life is about having a ‘can do’ attitude, having a job, paying the bills, taking care of the family, etc. All although all of these is true, it is only part of it. What many of us need to realise (I would even say ‘must’ realise) is that one of the most important part of our responsibility is about how we deal with all the events of our life, specially the bad ones. Given that we are not responsible for an earthquake that destroyed our home or other events we do not have control. Then again, we are responsible for what we decide to do next, for how we decide to feel about it. Jim Rohn put it very nicely: “It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.” How we decide to feel and what decide to do after an event, good or bad, is what shapes our future. So, for those of us that want to take part of our future, we must take responsibility of what we are, how we feel and what we do, regardless of what events are taking place in our life.

Achieving your goals

Many times, the challenge of achieving a goal is more about what we think, how we see ourselves or knowing what we really want, rather than the actual capability, ability or expertise on how to do it. Contact me if you like to know more on how to overcome this type of challenge.

Trends vs Disruption

It s very common thing that when something becomes a success everyone copy cat it and tries to benefit. The catch is that at this point in time, the “new” idea is no longer new and the main differentiator would be price… Lots of hard work for little earnings. A better approach is to become the leader that creates the trends, the standards by which everyone else is measure and the return is much greater. Then again, many people may believe coming up with new products, innovation, being the leader is too hard, it is for supper smart people, etc. The reality is that inventions, innovative thinking is a lot easier than most people believe. For example, how many time there is a new product in the market, you see it and you say to yourself “why didn’t think of it before?” The main thing here is to believe in yourself, believe you can do it!
